The London School of Journalism

Journalism Training

The London School of Journalism has been providing journalism training for over 90 years. Training is delivered by attendance courses, by online courses and as traditional distance learning. Whichever type of journalism training you are looking for, an LSJ course will provide you with teaching of the highest standard, and give you the professional knowledge you need to make the best of your ability in your chosen area of journalism.

Eight distance learning courses give training for all aspects of journalism. News Journalism, Freelance Journalism with specialty areas of Travel Writing, Sports Reporting and Culture and the Arts, Media Law, Subediting, and Internet Journalism are individual courses for you to choose from.

Distance Learning courses can last for up to two years, although on average most students complete within 10 to 15 months. Your tutor will be an journalist experienced in the area which is being taught.

Attendance Postgraduate Courses take place in London. The course can be taken as a full-time three month course, a part-time daytime course over six months, or as an evening course over nine months. This course has established an international reputation for excellence over many years, and is delivered by first-class professional journalists, most of whom are actively working in the field which they teach. We also offer the course as an Online Postgraduate Journalism course.

Information on students, their careers and details of our tutors can be found on the website.

Evening and daytime short classes are held in London throughout the year. Courses include our Journalism Introductory Course, News Journalism, Media Law, Writing for Women’s Magazines, Teeline Shorthand, Travel Writing and the Go Freelance Course.

Evening courses are held over six or nine evenings, once a week, from 18.30 until 21.00. Daytime courses usually take place over two or three consecutive days, from 10.00 until 17.00.

The LSJ has enormous experience of teaching journalism - and unlike most 'schools' who offer distance learning courses - we are a real school, staffed by real journalists and writers who enjoy working with real students. We continue to lead the way in developing new and effective teaching methods. The result is demonstrated by the success of our students.
